[Panel 1]
[Elizabeth]
Trees all shredded, and that's
the last of the Christmas
stuff over for another year.
[Bell]
I suppose it isn't too
bad if you believe in it.
[Elizabeth]
Or if it's Midwinter
or Yule or whatever.
[Bell]
So do you?
[Elizabeth]
Believe in it? Sometimes. Do your
family do the religious stuff?
[Panel 2]
[Bell]
Just the Queen's Speech.
[Elizabeth]
That's TECHnically
secular, isn't it?
[Bell]
Mum makes it a sort of food-fest,
and that's not too bad. The rest
of them, it's all just who spent
most on whose presents.
[Elizabeth]
Ah, the Feast of Mammon!
[Panel 3]
[Bell]
Mandi was telling me the
other day... someone she
knows got into real trouble
over Christmas last year.
[Elizabeth]
Oh?
[Bell]
Apparently she borrowed a
couple of thousand quid to
have "a proper Christmas" for
herself and her two kids...
[Elizabeth]
She did WHAT?
[Bell]
Borrowed two thousand
quid to do Christmas with.
[Panel 4]
[Elizabeth]
For three people? That's
not Christmas, that's MAD.
[Bell]
That's what I thought.
[Elizabeth]
So was it a good Christmas?
[Bell]
I expect. But then she couldn't
keep up with the repayments. Then
the house got repossessed.
Mandi said there isn't even
room for a Christmas tree in
the flat they're in now.
